Debbie, I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your uncle, Dr. C Appadu. My deepest sympathy to you, the Appadu’s and all the extended family .

It was just last month that I did an “obit” on Doris Etwaroo who was the sister of Dr. Cecil Appadu,( CHS Grad ‘43.) Dr. Appadu hailed from Port Mourant, and was a practicing medical doctor in New Amsterdam, Guyana. He was truly a patriot of our homeland. He chose not to emigrate, but to remain in Guyana and fulfill the solemn oath in medicine . The people needed medical treatment and he was there to render the services..

Dr C. Appadu was the brother of Harold Appadu (CHS grad ‘ 53 ), Sukranie Jadoo, Katie Sukdeo, Rena Bhagwandin and Thelma Ally (CHS grad ).

I would also like to mention that Dr. Appadu was in the graduating class at CHS with my uncle, Reginald Rawana, attorney at law. (Deceased)

** I am sure Ishwar & Debbie Bisram will furnish the rest of the information.

    Condolences fom Beauty.

  2. Julius Nathoo Says:

My condolences to the Appadu family, my neighbours at Port Mourant, especially to my dear friend “dux.”

Cecil Appadu was the hero of my youth. He was one of the “creche” boys; we saw him daily with his friends, Joe Solomon, Basil Butcher and others playing cricket. We were all proud of his good looks. The last time I saw Dr. Appadu was at the wedding of their daughter to Edwin and Eunice Persram’s son, Derek, in Toronto.

I did make a comment to Beauty’s “obit” in which I extolled the wonderful family which produced this icon who, as Beauty has accurately and eloquently recognized, gave to his country service far beyond the call of duty.

  3. Administrator Says:

Grads from the decade of the 1940’s especially are held in such awe and reverence that when we hear that one of their numbers is no more we feel an instant sense of loss and diminishment. Dr. Cecil Appadu’s life of service to humanity will continue to inspire and make us proud of who we are and whence we came.

The CHS-JCCSS family of grads and teachers expresses deepest sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Dr. Appadu. Ishwar and Debbie, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  4. Syd Latchana Says:

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family on the passing away of Dr Cecil Appadu. Have known Dr Appadu for many years and his daughter, Ann, is married to my cousin, Dereck Persram, who resides in the Toronto area with his family. I last saw Dr Appadu about two years ago when I visited Guyana. I knew Dr Appadu was not doing too well as I had spoken to his daughter, Ann, over the Christmas holidays and she had updated me on her father’s situation and had mentioned that Dereck had gone to Guyana to visit his parents and also her father.

Dr Cecil Appadu was well known to our family. Himself, along with my brother Dr Reginald Latchana and my three cousins, Dr Harold Rawana, Dr Donald Rawana and Dr Joe Persram all CHS graduates, had studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. After graduation as medical doctors, these four dedicated professionals returned to Guyana and practised their profession faithfully.

Also, our sympathy goes out to Harold Appadu brother of Dr Cecil Appadu. Harold who resides in the Toronto area has been a close family friend for many years. He and my sister, Violet, taught together for many years at Albion CM School. Myself and Harold graduated as professional accountants in Canada in 1978 and have remained close friends since then and usually catch up at functions in the Toronto area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members in this difficult time.

    Syd
