Back then Belfield was mostly rice lands so this house would have appeared twice as grand. And deservedly so. What caught my eye was the wind charger on the left. The battery it charged would have provided modest lighting for the house at nights. Another imposing building of the day was the Belfield Hotel which was a popular honeymoon resort for newly-weds of Georgetown. The manager was Walter Wellesley Bonyun who later became manager of the Springfield Hotel in New Amsterdam. There is a bridge on the Corentyne called Bonyun Bridge though I cannot say if there is or isn’t a connection with Walter Bonyun.
