It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing away of our beloved brother in law, David Latchana, well known as teacher David, formerly of Albion Front, Corentyne. David was the eldest of seven children of the late Philip and Kathy Latchana. David who had been ailing for some time passed away peacefully on August 15th in a Long Term Care Facility in Toronto where he was a resident for the past year.

David has leave to mourn his spouse , our sister, Violet of over 60 years, sons Martin, Michael, Marlon, and daughter Marcia. David’s siblings include Mabel, Kenneth, Ivy, Florence and the late Victor and Arnold, both deceased. He was also the proud grandpa of four children, Kristen, Nadine, Maya and Joshua.

David a CHS alumnus, class of 1949, after graduating with the Senior Cambridge Certificate started out his teaching career at Albion Canadian Mission Primary School, his alma mater. It was while teaching at this school he met our sister Violet also a teacher, both fell in love with one another got married in 1958, and enjoyed a matrimonial union that lasted for over 60 years and produced four very successful children.

David was a very well known educator of par excellence with a teaching career spanning over 40 years. Schools he taught included Albion , Bohemia and finally Cropper from where he retired in the early 1990’s. Over his career as a teacher at the primary school level, David has nurtured the lives of thousands of students many of whom went on to attend CHS-JCCSS and became very successful alumni. After retirement from their teaching career, both David and Violet migrated to Canada to join their children who were already well established in their adopted homeland.
In Guyana David was a staunch worshipper at the Bethel Presbyterian Church located in Albion Front and took an active role including sometimes being a lay preacher. After migrating to Canada, both David and Violet joined the Malvern Presbyterian Church of Toronto and took active roles in church related activities. David loved to sing hymns and was a member of the church choir.
David is no longer with us but his memories and good deeds will continue to live with us. He will be sadly missed by all he has touched. May the good Lord grant his soul eternal peace.
