Hunt for Red October

In 1975 a Soviet naval officer led a mutiny on board a frigate with the aim of toppling the government of Leonid Brezhnev. The attempt failed but an article about it inspired an insurance salesman named Tom Clancy to write his book “The Hunt for Red October” (1984). The book is about a rogue Soviet submarine captain who wishes to defect to the United States with his officers and the Soviet Navy’s most advanced nuclear submarine. The book was a bestseller and the 1990 movie starring Sean Connery was a box office hit.
